Escape Into “You” Time to Combat Stress + GIVEAWAY!

As I've mentioned recently, I went through a period where I was really struggling with quite a few things - mainly caused by stress and my own mind playing games on me! Since I published my body image post I've been very mindful to keep myself in a positive place. This normally means that I do not start my day on the computer or the phone. Instead I've been waking up super early (classes start at 5:45 AM and I normally don't wake up until 7:30 AM!) to take 2-3 yoga/pilates classes each week which has helped tremendously. I also come home after class and sit outside and either listen to music or podcasts and sometimes even practice more yoga/pilates on my own. I've been doing this everyday for the last few weeks and it gives me a clear start to my day without any negative distractions.

When Nestle contacted me about an Exotic Escape at home I actually thought about my own new routine that I have incorporated because that is truly what it feels like - an escape from social media, negative images, negative thoughts, etc. I was delighted to try out their new Nestlé® Pure Life® Exotics™ Sparkling Waters and incorporate them into my new morning routine. Your routine might not look exactly like mine but maybe getting up just a littler earlier to read or go for a run will put you in a better place to start the day. Believe me, I am not a morning person but I actually do look forward to these classes each week. I wake up at my normal 7-7:30 time on the days when I don't have class but I adjust the time I go to sleep to ensure I am still getting my 7 hours of sleep on class days.

I took some photos to give you some ideas of some simple moves that you can do that only take a few minutes each morning. I am not a "yogi" but love to move and stretch which is why I love yoga classes with a pilates twist.

I always have to do a backbend (it's normally my signature "I just climbed this mountain move"!) but I also love the butterfly stretch. Just a tip - It's good to take photos (or a video) so that you can compare and see improvement over time!

You can also use this time to do core work. Instead of your typical crunches try planks! We've described many different plank variations before but below are a few photos to show you just a quick sequence you can do in just a few minutes! The top and middle are standard planks (you can do these on your hands or elbows) and the bottom is a side plank. Hold each one for 30 seconds to 1 minute (don't forget both sides for the side plank). As your core gets stronger you should be able to hold your planks longer!

Really focus on making a straight line with your backside - don't let your button stick up too far or sag too low. Also squeeze your core!

It was a beautiful day when I was taking these photos so I decided to try out the new flavors to share with you. I have never been a big soda drinker but I do occasionally crave the carbonation and these drinks offer carbonation levels similar to canned soda – with Nestlé® Pure Life® Exotics™ sparkling water you're not sacrificing flavor OR fizz. Best of all they are zero-calorie and made with no artificial colors or sweeteners, while still offering an effervescent burst of flavor!

Nestlé® Pure Life® Exotics™ Sparkling Water has unique flavor varieties to help you escape the everyday, including Strawberry Dragon Fruit, Mango Peach Pineapple, Tangerine and Key Lime. Although I loved all of them my favorite was Tangerine! I love being outside and in the sun…It's so rejuvenating for me and these drinks helped me cool down (I am in Georgia where it's hot and humid all the time!).

All of the flavors just scream summertime and exotic. Summertime also brings visions of sugar-filled sodas and other empty calorie food and drinks. Instead of your typical soda, try replacing it with Nestlé® Pure Life® Exotics™ Sparkling Water. Even though many of us do not live near the beach (or anywhere exotic), make the best of what you do have and take a little time out just for YOU. Trust me, it helps with many things - stress being one of them!

  1. I love going into my backyard and laying out while reading a book in the sun!!!

  2. Sitting outside reading a book is a real treat due to the fact we don't have the best "sitting outside" weather. My escape has been my bathroom with the big soaker tub and my books or articles!

  3. I've been getting up earlier to get to the gym before my 9 month old granddaughter arrives to be babysit. I never thought I would actually get up early to exercise, but I have found that it really starts me off with a positive attitude. It really is my escape!

  4. My escape is spending time with my horse. It brings me back to my childhood and time spent with my dad who has long since passed away. My 'grown up' stresses melt away as it brings me back to happy memories. (

  5. My escape is reading a book with my blanket. (

  6. My escape in the few minutes between DS bedtime and my own.

  7. My escape is going for a run in the early quiet hours of the morning.
