Two Week Cardio Challenge + GIVEAWAY!

Share

All too often we hear from people that are either doing way too much cardio or people who get burned out from cardio in general. While we don’t ever want to discourage someone from doing what makes them happy, it’s important to find balance in your training. As we’ve mentioned before, we always recommend a mix of strength training, cardio, and flexibility training. Finding something that you love to cover all three of these is very important so that you don’t dread your workouts!

We were talking about all of this while we were hiking in California and an idea came to us (hiking is when we get most of our ideas!) to create a two week cardio challenge. Our FREE Two Week Healthy Living Challenge has been very popular so we decided to have this one be a two week challenge to go along with the Healthy Living Challenge!

Speaking of hiking, below is a picture of one of the hikes we did in Morro Bay, California. It was a beautiful trail! You can find the outfit Whitney is wearing at Kohl’s here.

And how cool is this shirt? It was perfect for me since I obviously love to hike! You can find it on Kohl’s website here.

The goal with this challenge, which goes along with Kohl’s #MakeYourMove Campaign, is to have a fun motivating challenge so hopefully you can discover what energizes you and brings you the most joy and incorporate that into your daily routine!

We didn’t just want to create any challenge though we wanted one that would incorporate running AND incline training to keep you from getting bored and to keep your body guessing. This challenge gets harder as time goes on but it should be adjusted to your current fitness level. For example, if you can’t handle the 8% incline with a speed of 2.8 try a 6% incline with a speed of 2.6. Tack this cardio challenge onto the end of one of your strength training sessions (may we suggest of the 4, 6, or 12 week workout plans that we have?!). This can certainly be done longer than two weeks but just make sure that you always incorporate the ever important rest days.

It gets even better though…how about NEW SHOES for this cardio challenge?! Who isn’t motivated by new workout gear? All you have to do is leave a comment below and let us know how you plan to #MakeYourMove for your chance to win a pair of New Balance shoes (for some ideas see this post)! We also suggest that you follow us and Kohl’s on social media so you don’t miss a post!

**Open to US citizens only - 18 or older. Open to men and women. Winner will be selected using random.org. Leave your comment by 11:59 EST on May 6, 2015 in order to be eligible.

  1. I have an upcoming bikini competition this weekend. In the past, I've rebounded terribly & gained back the weight, plus some! This time, I plan on staying healthy: mentally, emotionally, and physically post competition and NOT gaining back a ton of weight!!! Easing back into "real life" is how I will stay healthy & cognizant of my health. I look forward to giving your 2 week cardio challenge a try post competition! :) #MakeYourMove

  7. I motivate myself by remembering what it feels like to be happy, healthy, and confident in my own skin. I have joined my work's Shape Up Challenge and cannot wait to get started! Something that truly helps is meal prepping every weekend for the week ahead and having a plan for the gym everyday. I will definitely be using the Two Week Cardio Challenge to push me along!!

  12. This is GREAT! I have been doing circuit training for the past few weeks and adding this #MakeYourMOve to my workouts will be a great way to keep my heart rate up and burn some more calories! I hit my HUGE weight loss goal a few weeks ago and now I am in a limbo period of what do I do to maintain where I am...I don't want to be in "lose weight" mindset, but I also don't want to be a slacker either and gain the weight back! This is going to keep me motivated to keep up what I worked so hard for! Thanks for doing fun things like this often to keep us motivated!

  16. I plan to #MakeMyMove by taking my dog to the park more often for walks instead of just letting him out in the fenced in backyard. It's a great for us both to get exercise and I always love meeting other dog owners at the park.

  17. I plan to #MakeMyMove by staying as active as possible. As a result of the Healthy Living Challenge I began helping teach the girls running club at the elementary school I teach at. It was another way to keep me active and has turned out to be so much more! The club teaches girls how to deal with all the pressures that come with growing up in such an image-driven culture. It really promotes inner beauty and helps to give the girls skills to deal with things like peer pressure and how to be comfortable in their own skin. I've been inspired by working with this amazing group of girls and it's something I want to continue to do. This Saturday we have our 5K that they have been training for! :-)

  24. How do I plan to #MakeYourMove? By increasing my competitive running distance from 5Ks to a 10K by summer. Sunday, May 3rd I placed in my age division for the first time so I'm ready to challenge myself in the next running distance. I begin Crossfit in two weeks to increase my strength and flexibility training! So psyched! New shoes would be a great addition to my training plan.
