Clean Eat Education :: The Dirty Dozen

We receive a lot of questions about whether or not we eat everything organic.  While we suggest that you try to eat as much as you can organic, we understand that not all stores have a large selection and sometimes it is more expensive.  You might have heard of the "The Dirty Dozen" before - these are the foods that you want to buy organic.  If we can't purchase these items organic, we don't even buy them!  These are mainly your fruits and vegetables with thin skins.

UPDATE: Check out "The Clean Fifteen"!

P.S. If you want to read more information you can read this article from PBS.

  1. Ok, so I have just started eating "clean" and I am wondering why these particular fruits and veggies are the ones that I need to consider purchasing only as organic. I live here in the mid-west, and fresh fruits and veggies are very expensive this time of year, and organic ones are even worse. Thanks for helping me understand. If you have addressed this in the past, I can go back and read. I'm new to this site. Thanks.

    1. There is a link to an article from PBS that explains why to buy these particular fruits and veggies organic. The link is in the "P.S."

  2. Thoughts on frozen versions of some of these? Especiallythe fruits etc for smoothies. :)

  3. I'm curious to hear your thoughts about these "produce washes" you can buy. I got one at Trader Joe's and it claims to remove dirt, wax, pesticides, etc. You wash the produce with a few drops of it for 30 seconds and then rinse thoroughly.

Does this do anything to make the "dirty dozen" a little cleaner?

We are so excited you are leaving a comment for He and She Eat Clean! We read each and every comment and will get back to you soon! Thanks so much!
